Planning Shrikhand for a Family Gathering or Special Occasion
How much to order, which flavours to choose, and how to keep it perfectly chilled: a practical planning guide for hosts.

Shrikhand is a natural choice when the family gathers, whether for a festive lunch, a pooja, a birthday, Diwali and New Year visits, or simply a Sunday with relatives. Here is how to plan it well.
How much Shrikhand do you need?
When Shrikhand is served as one of several dishes, for example in a thali with puri, many hosts plan for roughly 80–100 g per guest. Plan more if it is the only dessert or your family especially loves it, and less if there are several other sweets.
| Guests | Approximate quantity |
|---|---|
| 10 | About 1 kg |
| 25 | 2 to 2.5 kg |
| 50 | 4 to 5 kg |
| 100 | 8 to 10 kg |
This is a rough starting point. Think about your menu, the time of day and your guests' appetites.
Choosing flavours for a mixed group
For most gatherings, two flavours work better than one:
- One classic that everyone will enjoy: Elaichi or Kesar
- One richer, festive option: Kesar Pista or Dry Fruit
A useful split is about two-thirds classic and one-third festive. If most of your guests prefer traditional tastes, lean towards Elaichi and Kesar. If they enjoy texture, consider adding American Nuts.
Remember that some guests may avoid nuts. Offering a flavour made without nuts is thoughtful, but always confirm ingredients with your maker if allergies are a concern.
Order early
Homemade Shrikhand is often prepared in limited quantities, and festival dates are busy for everyone. Order as early as you can, confirm the flavours and quantity in writing, and agree a delivery time that leaves some margin before guests arrive.
At The Sweet House, we accept bulk and special orders. Message us on WhatsApp with the date, flavours and approximate quantity, and we will confirm what is possible. Hosting in Bopal or nearby? See ordering details for Bopal, South Bopal, Shela or Ghuma.
Keeping it chilled on the day
- Refrigerate Shrikhand as soon as it arrives.
- Serve in small batches and refill from the fridge, rather than putting everything out at once.
- For a buffet, set the serving bowl in a larger bowl of ice.

Serving ideas for occasions
- Thali-style: a katori of Shrikhand with hot puri is the traditional way and always feels festive.
- Dessert cups: individual glasses are easy to hand around and look elegant.
- Garnish: a few saffron strands or pistachio slivers on top make a big difference.
